A custom made mouthguard is not the cheapest option but it is certainly the best. Mass-produced sporting mouthguards are relatively cheap but do not fit the exact contours of the teeth and gums as is the case with a custom fit guard. The dentist takes a mould of the teeth and then shapes the mouthguard to ensure it is a precise fit to the individual child. This means that the mouthguard:
– Exactly fits the shape of the teeth
– Fits comfortably
– Protects every single tooth
Manufactured mouthguards “are also less durable and tend to wear out quickly” so any money saved is soon eroded by the need for replacements. More information can be found at https://yourdentalhealthresource.com/should-my-child-wear-a-custom-fit-mouthguard-during-sports/
